Fortnightly Open Media Lab to launch at Rising Sun Arts Centre

Remix Reading will launch our fortnightly open media labs at the Rising Sun Arts Centre on the 18th of February. Come along and use computers loaded with lots of arty free software, from graphics manipulation to full audio mixing studios. If you get stuck just ask for help from others in the room, so don't worry if you've got no experience, it's a community learning environment.

Tom Chance, Remix Reading Project Lead, said: "Free culture is both about encouraging sharing and remixing and about enabling creativity. The fortnightly open media labs will give Reading a regular space in which we hope a creative community will flourish. Whether you're a daring conceptual artist or a bedroom guitarist, the open media labs will provide software, support and fun in a community learning environment."

All of the computers used are recycled from individuals and companies. They will run the Kubuntu Linux operating system and only run free software, which can be used, shared and modified without restriction. We welcome donations of equipment and expertise.

The launch comes hot on the tails of our art competition announcement, and will coincide with the relaunch of the newly refurbished Rising Sun Arts Centre. You can read a full programme for the day here. The first full open media lab will run on the 4th of March.
